Rustic wedding venues
More and more brides are looking for something a little bit different to the classic stately home wedding, and venues are responding. If you don’t feel the classic hotel or Stately Home is your style, then there are now lots of gorgeous alternatives. Below in no particular order are a few of our favourites.
Located on a 50 acre estate between Stoke and Leek The Ashes offers a gorgeous grade 2 listed country house as a backdrop. And has won Regional best venue for 2014 and 2015 so far!
Following the ceremony your guests can spill out in to the pretty courtyard for a drink and some canapes. Whilst you sneak off for some gorgeous photographs, in some of the many locations on offer. For example the formal gardens to the front, the woodland area or down to the lake.
The Ashes works with one of the most respected caterers in the UK, to ensure the food you give your guests will be a highlight of the day. They also are happy for you to bring your on alcohol without any corkage or service charges, a very rare thing indeed!
There are cottages within walking distance for you and your nearest and dearest to spend the night, and for the rest of the guests there a more cottages to rent within a mile or so, and also a selection of local hotels.
The Riding School at Calke Abbey.
Although I admit Calke Abbey is a stately home, your wedding will take place in The old Riding school A massive barn full of rustic charm, yet still a blank canvas for you to make the space perfectly fit the theme of your wedding.
Managed by Honeysuckle and Castle, Calke abbey is located in South Derbyshire, close to the villages of Melbourne and Ticknall. You are able to book the riding stables either for just your ceremony, or just the reception or have your whole day there, it is a very popular venue, so make sure you book early!
One of the things I love most about this Calke is the photo opportunities, you can take full advantage of the faded grandeur of this beautiful estate for some amazing photos. With the opportunity to use, the house, the walled gardens, the orangery and the parkland the options are endless, and the results will be stunning.
If you choose to have your wedding at Calke Abbey, a member of the Honeysuckle and castle team will be there to help and advise you at every stage throughout the process.
Also there are 4 holiday cottages within the estate for you and your guests to stay in, and plenty of Band Bs and Hotels in the local area.
This venue is incredibly popular with our brides, and when you take a look at their website you will understand why. They offer barn style weddings with a contemporary twist. Swancar farm is located just a few miles from junction 25 on the M1, and offer a gorgeous 16th century house and stunning scenery as the backdrop for your wedding.
There is a choice to get married in The lower barn, The gallery or the Oak hall. All of which offers the charm of a barn with oak beams and bare brick walls, combined with modern touches and clean lines, to offer a different and slightly less rustic feel than some of the other venues.
The Team at Swancar are dedicated to you and your wedding, and are proud of the attention to detail they offer. For your wedding breakfast they provide only the freshest produced, locally sourced (as much as possible) food. There are extensive menus to choose from, but if you can’t see quite what you are looking for you can meet with the head chef to come up with a unique menu to offer your guests.
There is some accomodation on site including a stunning bridal suite, your own private haven for the night, with breathtaking views of the countryside. And breakfast the following morning in the old farmhouse kitchen.
The West Mill.
Located in Darley Abbey The West Mill is a brand new venue, having only opened in December 2014, It offers more of an industrial feel but is still utterly charming and so different to most other venues in the area.
With its exposed brick walls, blue brick floors and cast iron beams The West Mill is a stunning place for a wedding, with room for up to 170 guests.
They have created a spacious spa style room using vintage furniture to use a bridal preparation suite, for you, your mum and your bridesmaids to get ready, whilst your guests arrive.
Your wedding breakfast will take place under barrel vaulted brick arches, with Georgian pained windows looking out to stunning views of the river.
In the evening you will move to the spinning room, with its fully stocked bar, chesterfield sofas and dance floor complete with glitter ball it is the perfect place to dance the night away!
